What Is High Pressure Water Jetting?
High pressure water jetting - sometimes called drain jetting or hydro jetting - is the most thorough and effective method available for clearing blocked and slow-running drains. A specialist pump forces water through a flexible hose at high pressure, driving a purpose-built nozzle through the drain. The nozzle simultaneously cuts through the blockage ahead of it and blasts water backwards to propel itself forward and flush dislodged debris out behind it.
The result is a drain that is not just unblocked but genuinely clean. Traditional drain rods can shift a solid obstruction, but they do little to remove the grease, scale, and compacted material coating the pipe walls - which is usually what caused the blockage in the first place, and what will cause the next one. Water jetting removes this build-up entirely, leaving the pipe as close to its original diameter as possible and significantly reducing the chance of the blockage recurring quickly.
When Is Jetting the Right Method?
Water jetting is effective against the full range of common domestic and commercial drain blockages. For kitchen drains blocked by accumulated grease and fat - by far the most common type we attend - it is particularly suited, because the hot pressurised water emulsifies and flushes the grease rather than simply punching a hole through it the way a rod does. For bathroom drain blockages caused by soap scum and hair, jetting clears both the blockage and the build-up on the pipe walls in a single pass.
For external drains and gullies, jetting clears compacted organic debris, cuts through established moss and algae, and in many cases can remove light tree root ingress where the roots have entered through a joint gap but have not yet caused structural damage to the pipe. For shared drainage runs in older tenement blocks, where scale and grease from multiple households has accumulated over years, jetting is often the only method that can restore the pipe to full flow without excavation.
Is Water Jetting Safe for My Drains?
Yes, when carried out by a trained operator using the correct nozzle type and pressure settings for the pipe diameter and material. We work with all standard residential and commercial drainage pipe materials - PVC, clay, cast iron, and pitch fibre - and assess the system before beginning to select the appropriate settings. We do not use jetting on pipes that are already structurally compromised, and if we find evidence of a damaged pipe during the job we will tell you before proceeding further.
We carry jetting equipment suitable for domestic drainage through to larger-diameter commercial systems, and we cover Glasgow, Paisley, Barrhead, Greenock, Port Glasgow, and all surrounding areas.
